ANNAPOLIS, Md. (May 13, 2026) U.S. Naval Academy’s 66th Superintendent Marine Lt. Gen. Michael J. Borgschulte congratulates Midshipman 4th Class Lincoln Hedberg, 18 years old, of Montclair, New Jersey after placing the midshipman cover atop the Herndon monument. USNA plebes (freshmen) climb the Herndon monument annually, a tradition symbolizing the successful completion of their plebe year. The class of 2029 completed the climb in 2 hours, 17 minutes and 36 seconds. As the undergraduate college of our country’s naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
