Rct. Jason Brown, 22, Platoon 2057, Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, strikes a pad during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program endurance course June 20, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. The course is broken down into a series of stations that are used to practice martial arts techniques and increase recruits' endurance. MCMAP is used to help produce better physically and morally strong Marines. Brown is from Marion, Ohio, and is scheduled to graduate Aug. 2, 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. David Bessey)
