A U.S. Forest Service Shorts C-23 Sherpa (N110Z) flies over the Shasta-Trinity National Forest during the California Aerial Supervision Academy, April 29, 2026. Thousands of pounds of supplies are delivered to firefighters each season by the California Smokejumpers using the Sherpa aircraft, which is capable of deploying Joint Precision Aerial Delivery (JPAD) GPS-guided para-cargo. During the academy, air attack students from the Forest Service and CAL FIRE practice coordinating multiple firefighting aircraft over simulated wildfire incidents.
