A U.S. Air Force Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) operator with the 116th Air Support Operations Squadron, Washington Air National Guard, establishes an observation post in a tower overlooking Pocahontas County in West Virginia in order to direct simulated airstrikes during Misty Dawn, an exercise with several National Guard units and multinational partners May 7, 2026. The exercise featured F16 fighters from the District of Columbia Air National Guard and AH-64D attack helicopters from the South Carolina Army National Guard conducting simulated airstrikes against notional targets, requiring extensive coordination and deconfliction from supporting forces.
