U.S. Army Col. Thomas Kilbride, Regimental Commander, (right) and Maj. Jacob McLellan, Regimental Operations Officer, assigned to Regimental Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion,1st Battalion, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) take part in An Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise (EDRE) on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va., May 6, 2026. The soldiers of The Old Guard conducted an air insertion aboard a UH‑60 aircraft during the EDRE as the soldiers deployed to a remote objective area. As part of the emergency‑readiness validation, the company executed a dismounted movement to a simulated village where they cleared structures, identified threats, and demonstrated proficiency in key EDRE requirements including rapid recall, alert‑to‑deployment timelines, mission planning, air‑loading procedures, tactical movement, and objective‑area security.
