Recently, the 586th Field Hospital conducted a Field Training Exercise which culminated in a mass-casualty (MASCAL) event designed to test both skill and resilience.

Soldiers stepped into roles—some applying moulage to realistically simulate traumatic injuries, while others responded as medical teams. As casualties were brought in, teams executed rapid triage, initiated treatment, administered notional medications or blood when needed, conducted field X-rays, and coordinated patient movement from the emergency department to the ICU.

Adding to the training environment, ROTC Cadets from Austin Peay State University participated as simulated patients and observed alongside cadre, gaining valuable insight into real-world military medical operations.

Every scenario pushed knowledge, teamwork, and decision-making under pressure—mirroring the chaos and urgency of real-world situations.

This training ensures that when it matters most, these Soldiers are ready to deliver life-saving care anytime, anywhere.
