U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. James L. Light, outgoing senior enlisted leader of 1st Armored Division, center, is presented the last shell casing fired during honors at his change of responsibility ceremony on Fort Bliss, Texas, May 1, 2026. Light, who has served in the U.S. Army for 29 years, will go on to be the senior enlisted leader of 3rd Armored Corps in Fort Hood, Texas, as U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Carvet C. Tate, the incoming senior enlisted leader of 1AD, who has served in the U.S. Army for 30 years and most recently served as the command sergeant major for the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, assumes his role as the senior enlisted leader for 1AD.
