2nd Lt. Heather MacGowan and DJ Kleiner from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Combat Readiness Directorate’s Rapid Sustainment Office demonstrate how a Handyscan 3D is used to reverse engineer components for additive manufacturing processes during the Air Education and Training Command’s AETC All Star Leadership Day at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, April 30, 2026. The event brought in hundreds of top high school student leaders from throughout Ohio’s Miami Valley and three surrounding states. The half-day dynamic, invitation-only experience recognizes students who influence their peers while immersing them in the world of military aviation, innovation, and service. The students toured operational aircraft, rotated through interactive demonstrations, and tackled leadership challenges that highlight teamwork, integrity, and problem-solving under pressure.
Throughout the day, students engaged directly with uniformed and civilian Airmen and Guardians from a wide range of career fields, hearing personal stories about service, resilience, and professional growth. These conversations help students connect their existing leadership roles in school and community organizations to potential futures in the Air Force, Air National Guard, or Space Force. All Star Leadership Day is part of a broader Department of the Air Force initiative to build enduring relationships with local schools and to inspire the next generation of character-driven leaders. By day’s end, students left the hangar with a clearer understanding of military career pathways and a greater confidence in their own leadership potential. (U.S. Air Force photo by Jim Varhegyi)
