Breen Jr. shared his experience as the lead U.S. Army spokesperson on the Pentagon grounds for the first three weeks after the 9/11 attacks. From 2012 through April 30, 2026, Breen served as the director of strategic communications and public affairs for the Military Health System, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Health Affairs, and the Defense Health Agency.
