Maj. Gen. Robert F. Hedelund, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing commanding general, presented Maj. Michael W. Hutchings, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 365 MV-22B Osprey pilot, with the Distinguished Flying Crosses in the squadron’s hangar aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C., June 28. He was awarded for the bravery and courage shown leading his section during a mission to insert a reconnaissance raid force into a heavily defended enemy landing zone in Afghanistan in June 2012. He is the first Marine Corps Osprey pilot to earn the Distinguished Flying Cross.
