U.S. Army Lt. Col. Christopher Roys and Master Sgt. Joshua Edwards, with the 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border, operate the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) along the Rio Grande River in Laredo, Texas, April 22, 2026. The ATAK is a handheld device that provides a powerful capability for coordinating with the U.S. Border Patrol to detect illegal alien movement in harsh geographical terrain. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
