KABUL, Afghanistan -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineer District Soldiers, Maj. Robert Cuevas of Yuma, AZ and Sgt. Cary Reiter of Baudette, MN, prepare to raise an American flag over the district's Qalaa House Compound on September 11, 2005. In response to requests from around the world, the district flew 76 US flags over the compound, once the home of the Iraqi Embassy, in commemoration of the terrorist attack on the U.S. September 11, 2001 and bearing witness to the sacrifices made to protect freedom during Operation Enduring Freedom .
