U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Kristin Rascon, a hospital corpsman with 1st Combat Readiness Regiment, 1st Marine Logistics Group, and a Texas native, poses for a portrait on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, April 14, 2026. When an urgent operational requirement arises, Rascon proactively steps into the role of Leading Operations Chief, a position typically held by a Chief Petty Officer, as recognized by her leadership. In this capacity, she rapidly establishes a 24-hour operations cell and skillfully coordinates the assembly and distribution of three Role II medical capabilities, significantly accelerating a process that would normally take much longer. Through her decisive leadership, forward medical teams are equipped to meet real-world operational needs, ensuring that units have the critical materials required to provide life-saving care in even the most austere conditions.
“My biggest piece of advice for junior Marines and Sailors would be to try and step out of that box and do everything you can to be the next person in charge,” said Rascon. “Don’t take pride in doing the bare minimum, be the best you can for your team. Without my team, I would not be where I am, they motivate me to set the example and to constantly work hard. Teamwork makes the dream work.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Mary Torres)
