JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (March 23, 2026) – U.S. Air Force paramedics, participating as volunteers in the Memory Encoding Under Cold Stress study, complete a baseline memory assessment. The study, conducted by Naval Health Research Center (NHRC), assesses the effects of cold-water immersion on cognitive function to improve warfighter survivability. NHRC, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, supports Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter readiness and lethality with research and development that delivers high-value, high-impact solutions to the health challenges U.S. military population faces on the battlefield, at-sea, home and abroad.
