FLEET ACTIVITIES YOKOSUKA, Japan (April 2, 2026) -- Solid waste sits in a bin waiting to be stripped of its cables and plastic materials at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka's Qualified Recycling Program (CFAY QRP) Yard April 2, 2026. CFAY QRP collects materials including scrap metal, used cooking oil, batteries, and other hazardous solid waste that can be sold to for reuse in industrial environments. In 2025, CFAY QRP generated approximately $1.1 million in funds by diverting eligible solid waste from landfills and into recycling centers. The raised funds may be invested back into the installation's environmental, safety and quality-of-life programs. (U.S. Navy photo by James Kimber)
