Adam Telle, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, visited Juneau and met with City and Borough of Juneau officials March 24 about the ongoing U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood mitigation efforts related to the Mendenhall Glacier Outburst Flooding Events, also known as GLOFs, in the Mendenhall River Valley. The meeting was an opportunity to reiterate USACE’s commitment to helping the community with short-, medium-, and long-term solutions to mitigate flood risk for the Mendenhall community. Furthermore, while in the community Secretary Telle toured Suicide Basin by helicopter, visited the existing Phase 1 and planned Phase 2 areas of gabion baskets, and met with local media to discuss this topic.
