NORFOLK, Va. (March 25, 2026) weird name, left, and Damage Controlman 3rd Class Jose Flores, both assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), simulate fighting a fire in a berthing during a fire response exercise. The fire response exercise evaluates the ship’s ability to respond to a major fire and assesses the ship’s emergency teams, medical department, firefighting capabilities and the crew’s ability to integrate with external fire teams. Wasp is conducting a selected restricted availability while in BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair following a seven-month deployment.
