U.S. Border Patrol agents and U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Michael Slaughter, a combat engineer officer and the Company D executive officer with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border, observe a train entering the United States from Mexico during a guided survey of the secured port of entry in Nogales, Ariz., March 19, 2026. The guided survey provides Marines with an improved understanding of the terrain and infrastructure to support ongoing border security operations. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
