U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Richard Cipro, the land component commander of the Massachusetts Army National Guard and deputy commanding general - National Guard, U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), gives Spc. Mallory Ethier, a canon crew member with the 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery a coin of excellence during the Justified Accord 26 “Top Gun” competition between the U.S. and Kenya Defence Forces, at Laresoro, Kenya, March 10, 2026. The competition, hosted by Soldiers assigned to the 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery Regiment, Massachusetts Army National Guard, alongside the Kenya Defence Forces, tested participants’ proficiency in call-for-fire procedures, target identification, and joint fires integration. The visit highlighted U.S. diplomatic engagement and observed multinational training that strengthened interoperability and reinforced regional security partnerships during the exercise.
JA26 increases multinational interoperability in support of humanitarian assistance and crisis response, prepares regional partners for United Nations and African Union missions, and builds readiness for the U.S. joint force. Led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), and hosted in Djibouti, Kenya, and Tanzania, JA26 is U.S. Africa Command’s largest exercise in East Africa.
