US infantry, Kenya Defense Forces rangers, familiarize themselves with principles of Unmanned Aircraft Systems

U.S. Army Sgt. Zachary Owens, a team leader with 1st Battalion, 181st Infantry Regiment, Massachusetts National Guard, pilots an unmanned aerial systems simulator during Justified Accord 2026, at the Humanitarian Peace Support School, Nairobi, Kenya, March 11, 2026. Unmanned aerial systems, or UAS, represent a modern shift in how war is waged, and the U.S. Army is the leader at integrating UAS with ground forces globally. By sharing this expertise with partner nations, stability, interoperability, and readiness can be maintained in austere regions around the globe.

JA26 increases multinational interoperability in support of humanitarian assistance and crisis response, prepares regional partners for United Nations and African Union missions, and builds readiness for the U.S. joint force. Led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), and hosted in Djibouti, Kenya, and Tanzania, JA26 is U.S. Africa Command’s largest exercise in East Africa.
