US, Kenya artillery units conduct bilateral live-fire training during Justified Accord 2026

U.S. Army Pvt. Maxwell Fortes, a gun crew member assigned to the 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery Regiment, Massachusetts Army National Guard, adjusts a collimator while emplacing a Kenya Defence Forces M119A2 Howitzer for Table IV training with KDF artillerymen during Justified Accord 2026 at Bearing Point 2, Laresoro, Kenya, March 2, 2026. The collimator provides a fixed, illuminated reticle that the gunner sights on, allowing for fast, accurate calculation of deflection angles. The joint exercise began with two U.S. M119A2 howitzer sections and two KDF sections training together to certify on Table VI, a key standard for gunnery proficiency. Following the gunnery qualifications, forward observers from both nations conducted their own Table IV certification, validating their ability to call for fire, reinforcing the interoperability and shared readiness between the two forces.

JA26 prepares regional partners for United Nations and African Union missions and builds readiness for the U.S. joint force. Led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), and hosted in Djibouti, Kenya, and Tanzania, JA26 is U.S. Africa Command’s largest exercise in East Africa.
