U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. David Silver, a transmission systems operator with Marine Wing Communications Squadron 48, Marine Air Control Group 48, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, utilizes a radio connected to a Sloping V field expedient antenna to send a very high frequency (VHF) signal to a location more than 200 miles away during ARCTIC EDGE 2026 (AE26), near Fort Greely, Alaska, March 5, 2026. AE26 is a North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command-led homeland defense exercise designed to improve readiness, demonstrate capabilities, and enhance Joint and Allied Force interoperability in the Arctic. This photo was altered for security purposes by blurring out serial numbers of equipment. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Aaron TorresLemus)
