USS Chosin (CG 65) slowly cruises through calm waters offshore from Port Hueneme on its way to NSWC PHD for a Combat Systems Assessment Team event on Jan. 26, 2026. U.S. Navy cruisers are named after significant battles and naval engagements, and CG 65 is named in recognition of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, fought in late 1950 around the frozen Chosin Lake in North Korea, where United Nations forces faced overwhelming Chinese Communist forces in brutal winter conditions. Despite being outnumbered, U.N. troops fought with bravery and resilience. (U.S. Navy photo by Eric Parsons)
