Minnesota National Guard participants from NOREX53 take a walking tour of Stiklestad National Cultural Center, Norway, Feb. 17, 2026. The final two days of NOREX53 were spent learning Norwegian history and culture. The Stiklestad church they toured was built over the site where King Olav Haraldsson was believed to have been killed in 1030. Following their visit to the church, the troops walked to recreation of a Viking long house, where they learned about the traditions of Viking chieftains. Service members are part of the 53rd Norwegian Reciprocal Troop Exchange (NOREX) which began in 1973 and remains the longest-running military exchange between the United States and a foreign nation.
