Portland, Oregon, native Senior Chief Musician James Swarts, principal percussionist with the U.S. Navy Concert Band, provides mallet instruction to a student at Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during a visit as part of the U.S. Navy Band’s 2026 spring tour. While on national performance tours, U.S. Navy Band members conduct outreach at local schools to provide musical instruction, share personal experiences and increase awareness of Navy service and career opportunities.
