U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Grant Caine, a UH-1Y Venom pilot with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 169, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, flies a UH-1Y Venom during a digitally aided close air support (DA-CAS) live-fire exercise to enhance digital interoperability during a joint training event at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, California, Feb. 11, 2026. The exercise integrated aviation assets, terminal controllers, and joint fires elements to validate the use of digital targeting data. This event marked a significant step in advancing HMLA-169’s ability to operate seamlessly within the joint force and expand beyond traditional voice-only CAS procedures.
