Blake Ayala, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency scientific recovery expert, uses a real-time kinetic global navigation satellite system receiver to map an area during a recovery mission in Laos, Jan. 21, 2026. The receivers can be used to map out recovery sites, and pinpoint where evidence and other information is found. There are more than 280 personnel missing in Laos from the Vietnam War.
