1st Maintenance Battalion, 1st Combat Readiness Regiment, I MEF, was recognized as the top field-level maintenance unit across the Department of War during the Secretary of War Maintenance Awards banquet, held Jan. 22 in Phoenix, Arizona, in conjunction with the Department of War Maintenance Symposium.
The battalion delivered a decisive lift to the readiness and operational capacity of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, providing high-fault, over-the-low, and intermediate maintenance support to more than 47,000 Marines. The unit sustained approximately 480,000 principal end items at a 95% material readiness rate, closed more than 18,000 intermediate maintenance service requests, and completed 10,000 secondary reparable exchanges, generating an estimated $120 million in cost savings. As the Marine Corps’ maintenance center of excellence, the battalion also trained 100 Marines in advanced troubleshooting and repair to sharpen expeditionary maintenance capabilities.
“1st Maintenance Battalion, well done. You truly are the best of the best. Oorah!” said Maj. Gen. Keith D. Reventlow, commanding general, Marine Corps Logistics Command, after changing out the unit logo on the coveted Phoenix Award trophy.
