The Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw (WLBB 30) directly assists the 650-foot motor vessel Algoma Intrepid near Beaver Island on Lake Michigan, Jan. 25, 2026. This ice-breaking effort was a result of Operation Taconite, a Coast Guard domestic ice-breaking operation conducted in the Great Lakes, designed to ensure the movement of commerce during winter months.
