U.S. Army Soldiers operate a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle alongside Romanian Armed Forces Soldiers manning a Gepard air defense system during a platoon-level situational training exercise at Bemowo Piskie Training Area, Poland, Jan. 23, 2026. The exercise integrated multinational air defense capabilities to support maneuver forces and counter simulated unmanned aerial system threats.
“We are utilizing our Romanian forces to help us detect and acquire enemy unmanned aerial systems,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. John Nimmons, commander of the NATO Forward Land Forces battlegroup and 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment. “This allows us to neutralize those threats and continue offensive operations toward the objective.”
