The Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) color guard posts the colors for the playing of the “Star-Spangled Banner” during a change of command ceremony on the flight deck, January 9, 2026. During the ceremony, Capt. Ryan Conole relieved Capt. Jose Arana to become Makin Island’s 13th commanding officer. Makin Island is currently homeported in San Diego.
