JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (Jan. 16, 2026) – Commanding Officer Capt. Michael M. Tiller, Medical Corps, Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, hosted the command’s first All Hands meeting for 2026 at the Battlefield Health and Trauma Institute. The meeting program consisted of hails and farewells along with directorate/leadership updates. Other topics briefed were new policy on external engagements, civilian travel and hiring, updates to the annual appraisal process, training for civilian supervisors, and new daily physical fitness/body composition assessments for active-duty personnel. Navy Medicine’s highly skilled workforce – at sea and ashore – provides an unmatched advantage in ensuring the health and readiness of the nation’s warfighters. Navy Medicine Research & Development (NMR&D) contributes directly to positive working relationships with partner nation militaries, keeping the scope of Department of War capabilities wide, and at the ready, to address emerging threats aboard. NAMRU San Antonio, part of NMR&D, conducts gap-driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality while engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
