    U.S. Army 1st Lt. Lofton Gray and Sgt. 1st Class Howard Hancock, leaders assigned to Joint Task Force-District of Columbia, pay their respects during a procession honoring Metropolitan Police Department Officer Terry Bennett in downtown Washington, D.C., Jan. 8, 2026. Bennett, a 32-year-old MPD officer, died Jan. 7, 2026 after succumbing to injuries sustained while assisting a stranded motorist in late December. Soldiers and Airmen assigned to the JTF-DC continue supporting the D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission in coordination with local agencies, providing critical support to the Metropolitan Police Department and paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation’s capital.
