U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Derrick Willis, a rifleman with 12th Littoral Combat Team, 12th Marine Littoral Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, fires an M27 infantry automatic rifle during a squad attack live-fire range as part of a squad competition on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 9, 2026. The squad competition evaluated Marines’ physical endurance, tactical proficiency, and small-unit leadership while reinforcing unit cohesion. One squad from each company within 12th LCT competed in a series of events to determine which Marine rifle squad most effectively demonstrated its combat capabilities.
