U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Justin Ferro, a rifleman with 12th Littoral Combat Team, 12th Marine Littoral Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, conducts reconnaissance to establish a listening post and observation post during a squad competition on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 7, 2026 The squad competition evaluated Marines’ physical endurance, tactical proficiency, and small-unit leadership while reinforcing unit cohesion. One squad from each company within 12th LCT competed in a series of events to determine which Marine rifle squad most effectively demonstrated its combat capabilities. Ferro is a native of Maryland.
