Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) interns from Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock, Division and Carderock's Combatant Craft Division are led by two Sailors on a tour of the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, USS Ross (DDG 71), at Naval Station Norfolk during a "Meet the Fleet" event July 24, 2025. “Meet the Fleet” allows both interns and new employees to experience living conditions on U.S. Navy ships and better understand the impact of their efforts to design ships to support the Sailor and the mission. Interns spent time with and learned from Sailors aboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), USS New York (LPD 21) and USS Ross (DDG 71) about the unique mission sets, roles and technology each ship class has in the fleet. Carderock, the Navy's innovation and ship design powerhouse, headquartered in West Bethesda, Maryland, is a world-class research and development facility specializing in critical ship design components.
