YOKOSUKA, Japan (Dec. 11, 2025) — Capt. Jonathan Hopkins, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY), addresses a crowd including police officers from Yokosuka Police Station, CFAY Sailors, and community safety groups at Keikyu Yokosuka-Chuo Station to take part in the city’s annual year-end traffic safety outreach during the event on December 11, 2025. Sailors and community members shared 500 locally grown daikon radishes with commuters, a symbolic gesture tied to the Japanese phrase daikonzetsu, meaning “to root out,” which is used to promote the prevention of drunken driving. The effort highlighted the close partnership between CFAY and local organizations in encouraging safe and responsible holiday celebrations throughout the community. For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet’s forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.
