Sasebo Mayor Strengthens Ties with Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard

Capt. Brian Rygloski, deputy commander of the Hawaii Regional Maintenance Center, shares a lighthearted moment with Sasebo Mayor Daisuke Miyajima during a tour of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility on Nov. 20, 2025. The tour highlighted the shipyard's mission and ship repair operations for Miyajima, whose city of Sasebo is also a key naval port hosting both U.S. and Japanese maritime forces. PHNSY & IMF’s mission is to keep the Navy’s fleet “Fit to Fight” by repairing, maintaining, and modernizing the Navy's fast-attack submarines and surface ships. Strategically located in the heart of the Pacific, it is the most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East. (U.S. Navy photo by Kenny Jones)
