Capt. John McKenna holds his son Ian, as Lindsey Remm looks on, upon his return to Wisconsin May 24 following a six-month deployment to the Middle East. Ian was born one week after McKenna deployed. Gov. Scott Walker, Maj. Gen. Donald Dunbar, adjutant general of Wisconsin, and senior Wisconsin National Guard officials joined family and friends May 24 in welcoming the approximately 100-mmber unit back to Volk Field, Wis. Aircraft maintenance issues delayed the 128th ACS return for two days.
The 128th ACS supported the 727th Expeditionary Air Control Squadron's mission of providing air surveillance, threat warning, and theater command, control and communications in support of the Combined Defense of the Persian Gulf (CDAG) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). The 128th ACS worked alongside U.S. Army soldiers, U.S. Marines and the U.K. Royal Air Force to identify, track and monitor air operations throughout a 590,000-square mile area of responsibility. During their deployment the 128th tracked more than 241,000 aircraft and supported more than 150 exercises. This was the 128th ACS's fourth deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit also deployed in 2003, 2006 and 2009.(Wisconsin National Guard photo by Vaughn R. Larson)
