Maj. Gen. Mark Morrell, Adjutant General of the South Dakota National Guard, presents a star quilt to U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Suriname Robert J. Faucher at the ambassador’s residence in Paramaribo, Suriname, Nov. 22, 2025. The star quilt is a U.S. Plains Indigenous symbol of honor and respect, traditionally given to mark friendship, service or important milestones. The presentation coincided with a State Partnership Program engagement with the Republic of Suriname as the South Dakota National Guard marks 20 years of cooperation, cultural exchange and military-to-military engagement.
