A 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division Abrams main battle tank crew rolls into a staging area after competing in the 1st AD’s Best Tanker Crew competition on the Fort Bliss Training Complex in New Mexico, Nov. 18, 2025. The exercise showcased the 1st AD’s armored capabilities and marked a key step in the division’s selection process to determine which tank crew will represent “Old Ironsides” at the 2026 U.S. Army Sullivan Cup competition, where top crews from across the Army compete for the title of best tank crew. The division invited the media for a day on the range to observe the live-fire training, capture the intensity of tank gunnery, and highlight the skill and readiness of 1st AD Soldiers.
