Views during a hike and climb of Mount Judah, Mount Lincoln, Anderson Peak, Donner Peak, and Tinker Knob, along the Pacific Crest Trail, Tahoe National Forest, Pacific Southwest Region of the USDA Forest Service, Aug. 30, 2025. The trailhead near Donner Summit offers wonderful access to an amazing trail that can be done as a shuttle hike, meaning someone could park at Palisades Tahoe Ski Resort, then drive with a friend to Donner and walk just one way. This hike was a little over 17 miles roundtrip and took just over eight hours with an elevation gain/loss of 3,700-feet. The furthest, and highest, Tinker Knob at 8,947-feet, was climbed first. Then turning around, Anderson, Lincoln, Judah, and Donner, in descending order. The hike went through a forest of moss-covered trees, and past historic markers explaining how pioneers, including the ill-fated Donner Party, headed over the Sierra Mountains at key points within the mountain range.
