More than 40 contractor representatives participate in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District Industry Day for the U.S. Coast Guard Yard Waterfront Optimization project at Curtis Bay, Maryland, Oct. 22-23, 2025. For over a century, the Coast Guard Yard has served as the service's sole shipbuilding and major repair facility, building, repairing and renovating vessels for the U.S. Coast Guard and serving as an essential part of the Coast Guard's core industrial base and fleet support operations. USACE Baltimore District leadership — including District Engineer Col. Francis Pera, Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management Daria Van Liew, and the chiefs of the Engineering and Contracting divisions with their teams — briefed attendees on the upcoming infrastructure project to modernize waterfront facilities. The yard requires enhanced waterfront infrastructure, including greater water depths and updated dry-docking capabilities, to support the arrival, maintenance and repair of new Offshore Patrol Cutters and National Security Cutters anticipated to arrive in 2030. Coast Guard Yard base leadership and support staff partnered with USACE to lead facility tours, providing contractors firsthand insight into existing conditions and project requirements. The two-day Industry Day served as a critical early engagement opportunity for USACE to introduce the waterfront optimization project, encourage industry interest and gather valuable feedback to inform the government's acquisition strategy.
