On August 22nd, 2025, the Deputy USNMR LTC John Staeheli, stood alongside other national military representatives, local leaders, and the Mayor of Mons to commemorate the 111th Anniversary of the Battle of Mons. Through a wreath-laying ceremony at several locations in the Mons area, LTC Staeheli paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) soldiers. The Battle of Mons marked the first major engagement during World War I between the German Army and the British Army.
