AT SEA (Sept. 19, 2025) – Operations Specialist 1st Class Carl Sowden mans a console in the combat information center of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) during a ballistic missile defense exercise with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and Republic of Korea Navy in support of Freedom Edge 25 at sea, Sept. 19. Trilateral exercises like Freedom Edge demonstrate our shared commitment to achieve and maintain peace in the Indo-Pacific. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Curtis Wilbur is forward-deployed and currently assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy’s largest DESRON and the U.S. 7th fleet’s principal surface force.
