U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to USS Normandy (CG 60), a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, embrace after the decommissioning ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk, Va., Sept. 25, 2025. Named after the Allied Invasion of Normandy, also known as Battle of Normandy or D-Day, the warship was commissioned in Newport, Rhode Island on Dec. 9, 1989. After supporting a multitude of humanitarian and operational missions spanning Operation Deliberate Force to Operation Enduring Freedom, Normandy completes its active service after nearly 36 years.
