U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Benjamin Pontius, an infantry officer and Cpl. Tyler Bigler, a rifleman with Animal Company, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, secure a simulated casualty hoisted by an MV-22 Osprey assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 (Rein.), 31st MEU, during hoist training at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 16, 2025. Marines participated in training to enhance their proficiency and comfortability while conducting casualty evacuation in harsh jungle environments. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
