ELLIOT, Maine (Sept. 16, 2025) – Portsmouth Naval Shipyard’s Facility Response Team (FRT) conducted its annual training exercise several miles upriver from the shipyard. The high-speed containment system being towed is designed to trap oil and debris on the water’s surface during a spill. The exercise brought together the PNSY FRT, New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, U.S. Coast Guard Station New Castle, U.S. Coast Guard Station Northeast District Southern Region Auxiliary, and the Elliot Police Department. The event strengthened coordination between the Navy and local first responders while highlighting the shipyard’s mission to maintain the Navy’s submarine fleet. (U.S. Navy photo by Neil Boorjian)
