Part of the National Recreation Trails system, the Pinecrest Lake loop is one of the premiere hiking trails in the state of California and the entry way to the sublime -- Cleo’s Bath. Follow the trail around to the sign for Cleo’s Bath, turn off the main trail and begin your ascent higher into the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Follow the blue arrows and be prepared for a challenging up-the-side of the mountain rock scramble roughly a ¼ before reaching your destination. The mighty South Fork Stanislaus River comes rumbling down the mountain, settling in Cleo’s Bath before continuing down the mountain side. (USDA Forest Service photo by Benjamin Cossel)
