U.S. Marines, Sailors, families and friends recite Anchors Aweigh and the Marines' Hymn after the Chief Petty Officer selectees were pinned and covered to the rank of Chief Petty Officer as part of the Chief Pinning Ceremony at Marine Forces Special Operations Command Headquarters at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sept 16, 2025. The Chief Pinning Ceremony is a longstanding tradition in the United States Navy and Marine Corps that signifies the completion of an intensive six-week initiation and the promotion of a First-Class Petty Officer or other senior enlisted personnel to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (CPO). It serves as a public acknowledgment of this important career achievement, during which the newly promoted Chief is presented with their anchors and combination cover; symbols of their induction into the "Chief's Mess" and the greater leadership responsibilities that come with the rank.
